Getting in the X-mas Spirit

Nothing damps my Christmas spirit like decorations in shop windows up in early October when it's still 25ºC (77ºF) out there - I actually saw chocolate Santa's on sale in late September (probably last years stock); tons of X-mas adds on TV, Radio, Billboards for months before X-mas. So I try to ignore it all until I feel "Christmas-y"
"Christmas-y" for me is cold December days, nightfall around 5pm, city streets all lit up with decorations, a Harry Potter movie (I hate it when it premiers on Summer), a warm cappuccino and lemon pie after a hectic X-mas shopping spree and the anticipation of spending the 24th and 25th with family, lots of food, sweets and presents.
So with 17 days to go I thought it was time to get in the season's spirit and nothing does that better for me than setting up my tree.

Christmas-y
Date: 2010-12-08 11:50 pm (UTC)I'm with you. Nothing like cold winter days and early darkness to get you going. So far I have only shopped for the needed things like clothes. HOWEVER! This weekend I go shopping for the toys!
Also for me doing something for somebody else. This year some of my coworkers and myself are picking up gifts, making cookies, and giving oranges and apples for a school specially for teen mothers and pregnant teens and their children. We have been planning this since august. So every payday we would all put a little money in. It didn't seem like much at the time but we're suprised by how much we can do!
I still wasn't in the spirit yet until I saw your tree and read your thoughts. Now I feel myself getting in the spirit and getting excited for Christmas. I'm no longer dreading making 80 cookies but looking forward to it.
So I'll say it again. Thank you for getting me in the spirit!
